I prefer to keep my junk at about 1/4 inch growth. I find anything longer and it gets in the way of my daily jogging routine. I use a battery operated pair of clippers to do the job. The one piece of advice I can offer up is this, don't ever trim the lawn when the batteries are running low. I still have a scar.
